Latest news:
Dear friends!
July is here, which means I’ll be spending most of this month, as I do most of the year, at the Yiddish Summer Weimar festival in Germany. Before that, however, I have one more joint performance coming up with my longtime friend, mentor, and colleague, Dr. Alan Bern.
So, here’s my schedule for July:
July 9: Performance as part of the duo Di Yidishe Neshome at the ceremony honoring Dr. Diana Matut, Honorary Professor and Director of the Old Synagogue in Essen, Germany. The event will take place in Essen, Germany.
On July 12, I’m leaving for Weimar
July 17–19: As part of Yiddish Summer Weimar, I will lead an educational workshop on Jewish culture for the charity Caritas, together with my wife, photographer and videographer Shendl Copitman, and Nesim Bencoya, director of the Sephardic Culture Festival in Izmir, Turkey.
On July 26, I’ll take part in the filming of a documentary, which will take place in Berlin. That’s all I can say for now; more details will follow later, once I’m authorized to share more information.
Most of the rest of the time, I’ll be busy rehearsing for the theatrical musical 'Togbukh' (Rose Shoshana Kahan – A Yiddish Story of Shanghai), with a libretto by Dr. Diana Matut, music by Dr. Alan Bern, and directed by Maximilian Löwenstein. The world premiere will take place on August 2. The lineup for this project is:
Leila Schütz (soprano)
Dr. Alan Bern (music director, piano, accordion)
Ilya Gindin (clarinet, saxophone)
Lisa Hoppe (double bass)
Mark Kovnatskiy (violin)
Nora Thiele (percussion)
I'll share my August performing schedule with you in my next newsletter.
I look forward to seeing you at one of these events!
Check my calendar for more information about my future concerts!
My concert schedule is gradually filling up, which is good news.
On the other hand, this means that if you would like to organize an event with my participation (be it a concert, a klezmer music workshop, a Yiddish dance workshop, or a lecture), then now is the time to hurry up and contact me regarding possible dates!
